Challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 suddenly pushed employees globally to work from home. While technology has come a long way to bridge the gap between physical and digital spaces, employees still felt a loss of connection while using digital tools to collaborate with their colleagues.
Timeline
August 2020 - May 2021
Questions
What issues have been exasperated by having employees work from home? What problems were actually solved by having employees work from home? What can be done to mitigate the issues, but also do not interfere with the progress that was potentially made?
Outcome
A guidebook to create remote policies for visually impaired employees.
RESEARCH
Interviews with organizational psychologists, and those who work in human resources departments
Desk research on available collaboration tools, hybrid work, employee investment, and psychology of remote work
Conversations with leaders of remote first work
Conversations with unions
VALIDATION
Although there is plenty of research on how remote work psychologically affects employees productivity, and how they collaborate with each other, companies seemed to have a lot less information on how remote work affects the morale of the visually impaired. The information is accessible to everyone, as the unions have made it public, but companies are not receiving the information to be used to implement the guidance.
MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT
An easy to follow website that demonstrates simple and cost saving changes to implement that would greatly increase the morale and retention rates of visually impaired employees.
